Every baptized person is called to ministry. The Education for Ministry (EfM) program provides people with education to discern and carry out that calling. During the Service of Confirmation we ask God to "Renew in these your servants the covenant you made with them at Baptism. Send them forth in the power of the Spirit to perform the service you set before them." EfM offers an opportunity to discover how to respond to our call to Christian service. Graduates will also come to understand that serving God happens everywhere-not just in church.
Emily Rotch and Emily Jenks are the mentors of our EfM Group. Both have been mentors for a number of years and are certified by the EfM program.
The current class meets on Sunday at 11:00 am. For the time being they are meeting via the Zoom platform.
If you are interested in joining the group, please contact Emily Rotch, Emily Jenks or the parish office
Groups at St. John's generally start in September and wind up the year in June. Registrations and fees need to be sent to Sewanee in August for the start schedule to work and so the group has their working materials. Meeting times are decided by the group and every attempt is made to accommodate planned absences.
There is a time and a dollar commitment. St. John's has a fund, as does the Diocese of Maine, to help cover costs that are an obstacle. Classes meet for 36 weeks, usually on the academic year cycle and regular attendance is important for the life of the group.
